Damda Privacy Policy

Effective date: November 1, 2026

Damda works without an account. Signing up needs no name, phone number or email, and the app does not ask for location, contacts, camera, microphone or photo and storage permissions. The app does not send names or contact details to any server.

Timetables, to-dos, memos and photos are stored on this device. Their contents are not sent to ranking, analytics or ad services.

The information in sections 1 to 6 below is, however, sent to Google services or handled by Google.

1. Ranking and study hall

Participation begins when you first choose a seat in the study hall. From then on, the information below is sent while you use the focus timer and are online. Focus time from before you choose a seat is not sent. Turning on “Offline mode” on the study hall screen or in Settings stops all sending and loading. If a focus session is running, one last transfer frees your seat. Focus time while it is on stays only on this device and is not uploaded even after you turn it off.

Even before you choose a seat, opening the study hall screen (on large screens it opens along with the Records tab) creates an anonymous account to load other participants. At that point the account ID and IP address are processed by Firebase Authentication, but no focus records are sent.

  • Sent: an anonymous account ID created automatically, seat number, today's focus time, whether you are focusing or on a break, when this focus started, when the record was last updated, activity type (Study, Hobby, Rest), and the status you picked (from a list in the app)
  • Not sent: profile name, schedule and to-do titles, memos, anything you typed, the hamster's outfit
  • Who can see it: other participants' apps receive this information and show it as a name like “Damda XXXX” and a hamster with random fur color. The name and look on screen change every day, but the anonymous account ID stays the same and also reaches other participants' apps. Outside the app's screens, daily ranking records can therefore be linked by that ID.
  • Protecting the service: Google Play Integrity tokens are used to check that the app is genuine, and Firebase Authentication records IP addresses to prevent abuse.
  • How long it is kept: seat information is deleted when you finish focusing. If the app is force-closed or deleted while you are focusing, it may stay on the server, but the seat shows as free on screen within 35 minutes. Seat information left this way and daily ranking records are deleted within 90 days. Google keeps IP records for a few weeks. “Delete my online data” immediately deletes your seat, daily ranking records and anonymous account (internet connection required). It can take up to 180 days for this data to disappear completely from Google's systems and backups. The anonymous account stays on the server until you delete it or request deletion by email. If you delete the app first, this can no longer be done in the app, so please use the email in section 11. Reinstalling creates a new ID.

2. Usage analytics (Google Analytics, Firebase Performance Monitoring)

Collected to fix and improve the app. It is on by default and can be turned off with “Allow usage analytics” in Settings.

  • Information: screen and feature use (for example adding a to-do or starting the timer), progress numbers such as streaks, subscription screen use and subscription status, purchased product name and price, whether notifications are allowed, a range for the number of timetables, screen theme, app instance ID, installation ID, advertising ID, device model, OS and app version, approximate location estimated from the IP address, app start time and network response time
  • Not sent: schedule and to-do titles, memos, subject names, images
  • How long it is kept: analytics for up to 14 months, performance records for up to 60 days (records tied to an IP address for 30 days)

3. Error reports (Firebase Crashlytics)

Collected to find and fix app errors. There is no setting in the app to turn this off.

  • Information: error message and code location, app state at the time of the error, device model and OS version, a per-installation identifier
  • The app does not deliberately put schedule or to-do titles or memos in error reports.
  • How long it is kept: 90 days

4. Announcements (Firebase Cloud Messaging)

Used to send announcements. If you turn off Damda notifications in Android settings, announcements no longer appear, but the information below is still sent.

  • Information: installation ID, notification token, app version, app language (a subscription to announcements in that language)
  • How long it is kept: Google keeps the installation ID unless Damda asks for it to be deleted.

5. Ads (Google AdMob)

Ads are shown if you are not subscribed. No ads are requested while you are subscribed.

  • Collected directly by Google: advertising ID, app set ID, where applicable identifiers related to accounts signed in on the device, IP address (to estimate approximate location), usage such as app launches and taps, app diagnostics
  • Used for: showing and measuring ads, personalized ads, analytics and fraud prevention. Android ad APIs (such as Topics) may also be used. Google handles and may share this information under its own policies.
  • How to refuse: you can delete or reset the advertising ID in your device's ad settings (menu names vary by device). In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, you can change your choice in the consent form and in “Ad privacy options” in Settings. If you refuse, non-personalized ads may still appear.
  • Retention and details: Google Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy)

6. Payments (Google Play)

Subscription payments are handled by Google Play. Damda does not receive payment details such as card numbers. The app gets your subscription status from Google Play and stores it on this device. Subscription status and purchase information may be included in the analytics in section 2.

7. Email inquiries

The app does not collect or send email. The app's contact button only opens your mail app, and you send the email yourself. The developer uses the address and content of the emails received only to reply, and deletes them once the issue is resolved. The developer may ask for your device model if it helps solve the problem.

8. Information stored on your device

Schedules, to-dos, memos, photos, day records, goals, focus records, profile name and settings are stored on this device. They are deleted with the app and are not included in Android cloud backup or device transfer. On new installs the app's database is encrypted. On devices updated from an earlier version, the database may remain unencrypted.

Depending on the features you use, information may leave the device or go to other apps.

  • Photos: taking a photo uses your device's camera app, and choosing one uses the Android photo picker. Only the photos you choose are copied into the app.
  • Backup files: files made in “Backup & restore” are saved where you choose. They contain schedules, to-dos, memos, photos, day records, goals, focus records, profile name and settings, encrypted with a password you set. The password is not stored anywhere, so if you forget it, Damda cannot open the file for you either. These files remain after the app is deleted. If you save them to a cloud folder, that service's policies apply.
  • Wear OS watch: if you use the Damda watch app, today's schedules, to-do titles and contents, and timer status are sent to the watch. Google Play services delivers them, and when Bluetooth is unavailable they may pass through Google Cloud with end-to-end encryption.
  • Phone search: system search such as Galaxy Finder can find schedule and to-do titles. This is on by default and can be turned off with “Show in phone search” in Settings.
  • AI assistants: on Android 16 and later, assistant apps permitted by the system can, when handling your request, read schedules and to-dos for any date, add schedules and to-dos, or start the timer and check its status. Information the assistant receives follows that app's policies.
  • Widgets and notifications: schedule and to-do titles may appear on the home screen, lock screen and in notifications.
  • Sharing: images and text you share are sent to the app you choose.

9. Provision to third parties and outsourcing of processing

Damda does not sell personal information and does not provide it to others unless required by law. However, the ad information in section 5 is collected directly by Google, and the ranking information in section 1 is visible to other participants.

Processing outsourced to: Google LLC (ranking server and anonymous accounts, analytics, error reports, sending notifications)

10. Transfer outside Korea

  • Why transfers happen: the Google libraries (SDKs) built into the app, listed below, send information to Google's servers to provide their features.
  • Libraries for section 1: Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Firebase App Check
  • Libraries for section 2: Google Analytics, Firebase Performance Monitoring
  • Library for section 3: Firebase Crashlytics
  • Library for section 4: Firebase Cloud Messaging
  • Libraries for section 5: Google Mobile Ads SDK, User Messaging Platform
  • Legal basis: for sections 1 to 4, Article 28-8(1)(3)(a) of Korea's Personal Information Protection Act (processing and storage entrusted as needed to provide the service, disclosed in this policy). The ad information in section 5 is not handed over by Damda: Google collects it directly.
  • Recipient: Google LLC (USA), googlekrsupport@google.com
  • Countries: the USA and other countries where Google has data centers. Ranking records are stored in the Seoul region, and anonymous account authentication is processed in the USA.
  • Items, purposes and retention: as in sections 1 to 5.
  • When and how: sent over the internet from time to time while you use the app.
  • How to refuse and what happens: analytics can be turned off in Settings, the advertising ID in device settings, and ranking sending with “Offline mode” on the study hall screen or in Settings. While offline mode is on, you cannot see other people or the ranking, and the study hall works on this device only. Error report and announcement information cannot be turned off in the app, so refusing means deleting the app.

11. Checking and deleting your information

You and your legal representative can request access, correction, deletion or suspension of processing by email at the address below. Information stored on the device can be changed or deleted directly in the app.

You can delete ranking records and the anonymous account yourself with “Delete my online data” in Settings or on the study hall screen in offline mode. After deleting, offline mode stays on, and rejoining creates a new anonymous account. If you have already deleted the app, please email the date, that day's focus time and your rank. The app does not show your anonymous ID, so these are used to find your records. If they cannot be found, you will be told.

Deletion process: information past its retention period, or that you ask to delete, is deleted without delay. Daily ranking records are removed by a regular cleanup within 90 days, and inquiry emails are removed from the mailbox once the issue is resolved.

Deletion method: electronic records on the server and in the mailbox are deleted so that they cannot be recovered.

12. Safeguards

  • All of the app's network traffic uses encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS).
  • This version's ranking server lets you change only your own records and stores only defined items.
  • Only the developer can access this version's ranking server and inquiry emails.

13. Permissions the app uses

These are the permissions of the phone app. The Damda watch app asks for notification permission separately.

Permissions you choose to allow (if you refuse, the rest of the app still works)

  • Notifications: show schedule and to-do reminders, the focus timer and announcements. Asked on Android 13 and later.
  • Alarms & reminders: show schedule reminders at the set time and keep your study hall seat status up to date. Without it, reminders may come late and the live timetable may not appear on time.

Permissions granted automatically at install

  • Internet and network status: used for ranking, analytics, error reports, announcements, ads and payments.
  • Foreground service: keeps the focus timer and live timetable running while a notification shows that they are active.
  • Status bar display (Android 16 and later): shows an ongoing focus session or schedule in the status bar and on the lock screen.
  • Run at startup: schedules reminders and widget updates again after the device restarts.
  • Vibration: used for notifications, the timer, completed to-dos and celebration screens.

Permissions included with libraries

  • Advertising ID and ad APIs (Google Mobile Ads, Google Analytics): used for the analytics in section 2 and the ads in section 5.
  • Google Play purchases (Google Play Billing): used for the subscription payments in section 6.
  • Receiving announcements (Firebase Cloud Messaging): receives the announcements in section 4.
  • Install source (Google Analytics): measures where the app was installed from.
  • Prevent device from sleeping (Firebase, Google Analytics, WorkManager): keeps the device awake until background work finishes.
  • Read Google services settings (reCAPTCHA in Firebase Authentication): used to prevent abuse.

14. Usage restrictions and refunds

Subscription payments, cancellations and refunds are done through Google Play and follow Google Play's policies.

Actions that disrupt the service, such as manipulating the ranking or tampering with the app, may lead to restrictions such as removing records.

Requests and questions about restrictions or refunds are also accepted at the email in section 17.

15. Children

Damda does not ask for age, so it does not know how old users are. Legal representatives of children under 14 can ask to check and delete a child's information using the method in section 11.

16. Information uploaded by earlier versions

This policy is based on versions released after the effective date.

Versions 3.0.2 and earlier stored an anonymous ID, country code and focus time in a different Firebase project for the ranking, and devices that have not updated keep sending them. The ranking server limits in section 12 do not apply to that project. Timetable images and contents uploaded with “timetable sharing” in versions before 3.0 were deleted from that project on October 31, 2026 (recovery copies of the images are removed by November 7, 2026), and sharing no longer works in those versions. Ranking records in that project have no set deletion date and stay until deletion is requested. To have them deleted, please use the email in section 11.

17. Privacy officer and complaints

  • Privacy officer: MoonByeongHak (developer; Google Play developer name Dev GamJaTwiGim)
  • Email: a28500312@gmail.com
  • Report a privacy violation: Privacy Infringement Report Center, 118 (privacy.kisa.or.kr)
  • Dispute mediation: Personal Information Dispute Mediation Committee, 1833-6972 (www.kopico.go.kr)

Korean law applies to disputes about this policy.
